Topical interferon Alpha-2b in refractory limbal vernal keratoconjunctivitis: a case report

Purpose: To report our experience of managing a steroid resistant limbal vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) by topical interferon alpha-2b (IFN- 2b) eye drops. Methods: Case Results: A 20-year-old man was referred to cornea clinic with the chief complaints itching and photophobia in eyes foreign body sensation, redness, ptosis both eyes. He had 10-year history gradually enlarging gelatinous masses on eyes, which according other signs impression cytology (IC) diagnosed as VKC. As disease his left more severe persistent maximum usage, we started IFN- 2b drops, that rapid therapeutic response observed. After three months using all ocular surface inflammation symptoms rapidly disappeared continued this drug till another 3 months, at 12-months follow-up, there no recurrence papillary hypertrophic lesions Conclusion: In refractory VKC, can be used enhance remission such complex cases resolve patient’s complains rapidly.
